Spring and Atlanta
Our very own Red Bud…
The Cabin books have landed! A whole garage full of them! This means that I can make my trip to Atlanta next week with a truckload of books. Their timely arrival feels like a burst of color and hope, just like what happens in Spring!
When my girls were small, we would take tours around the yard and celebrate each new shoot or a sliver of color that was pushing out and up, exclaiming with joy at each of our sightings. I am still like a giddy kid when spring comes. In the drab Northeast, the bursting color and warmth seems to wake everyone up. People come out of hibernation and walk the neighborhood, birds begin their cacophony of concerts, lime green buds on the trees are brilliant and crisp. I walk daily around my yard and neighborhood in awe and wonder.
As I have said many times, rhythms are one of my anchors that holds me steady. I know spring is coming…every year. It varies in intensity due to late freezes or warm spells, but it comes. Winter brings roaring fires, down coats and a trip to a sunny place, summer will be hot, welcome, and full of water activities, fall comes with the smell of earth and leaves and the returning of sweaters to the closet. I try to remember this rhythm of nature and its seasons when I am in the dead of winter or sweating profusely in the summer. I try to enjoy what is present, knowing they are just passing through…
The Cabin is a meaningful, true story about summers of unfettered play, unexpected friendship, loss, resilience, and the saving grace of rhythms. It is about the seasons of loss that come with seasons of renewal and hope.
With the arrival of The Cabin this spring, comes a flurry of activity and readings…a season of celebrating. I would love to have you join me!
HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE:
COME TO A READING
April 23 through April 26: ATLANTA
-Wednesday, April 23: North of Atlanta is a charming town of Dahlonega and a classy venue called SipsatBleu: A place where wine and beauty and artists are celebrated and honored. Come on out for a reading and discussion of The Cabin. I am honored to be a guest. The event will start at 5:30. Discussion will follow as things always get stirred! What is most exciting about this stop is that I will get to see my niece and her wife and be in her world for a while.
-Friday, April 25: I will be reading at the home of Kelly Roibus in Decatur, Georgia. Kelly is a woman I have known for a long time. She is familiar with suffering and rebirth and has persevered in hope through many of life’s trials. I respect and admire her tenacity and courage in all things. The Cabin is actually a perfect book to be read in her presence!
-Saturday, April 26: Another reading of The Cabin will take place at the home of Stephanie and Gaius Gough in Smyrna, Georgia. This is a real treat for me as I have known the Goughs for over 30 years. Stephanie and I started a school together, shared a love of books, suffered loss and resurrection together, and so much more. Stephanie is Madison’s godmother and was in the birthing room for both of my children’s entrance into the world. (You should ask us what the story is on that one!)
